50 years of Minitube: The launch of semen extenders

The major benefit of AI would be void without the research discovery of semen extenders, which protect sperm cells through temperature and time - and thereby allow storage.

Admittedly, it was not Minitube to invent semen extenders as a key element of successful artificial insemination. But, beginning with the launch of Triladyl® bull semen extender in 1974, constant improvements and research led to a variety of Minitube diluents for any single species (cattle, swine, dogs, horses, small ruminants, camelids, rabbits, fish and even bees) and any single application (fresh, cooled or frozen semen). The challenge lies in finding the best combination of the basic ingredients like nutrients, salts, buffers, membrane protectives, cryoprotectants or antibiotics. In addition, customized media meeting specific requirements are developed and manufactured under the supervision of the experienced media team.

Meanwhile, Minitube offers around 50 different types of powder or liquid media that are all produced in a modern, in-house production plant with highly sophisticated equipment. The examination of media in laboratory and field-testing is one focus of the research. Trust Minitube´s highest quality standard for semen extenders in the industry, which has been certified by GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) in 2012.
