On-farm AI technicians were guests at Minitube

On 04.06.2019, more than 30 on-farm AI technicians attended an AI crash course organized by Bayern-Genetik GmbH at Minitube in Tiefenbach, Germany.

In three intensive training days, the participants were able to acquire all relevant theoretical and practical knowledge and methods to enable them to successfully carry out inseminations at their own facilities.

The focus of the practical application day at Minitube was on the correct implementation of the insemination catheters. The participants were first informed in a lecture about the advantages of the SafeBlue method, which clearly proves that optimal hygiene during insemination has a positive influence on the reproduction result. In the afternoon, the participants were then given the chance to gain some hands-on experience. Minitube provided three AI training models "Suzy" for this purpose, in which the participants could practice the insemination procedure in small groups and under professional guidance. "Suzy" is an artificial model sow for training insemination technicians. "Suzy" has an extremely realistic gynaecological section.

The use of an artificial training model offers flexibility regarding the time and location of the AI training courses, thus increasing biosafety on the farm and significantly reducing the risk of animal injuries by inexperienced pupils. In addition, practice sessions can be repeated as often as necessary and various catheter models can be thoroughly tested. Together, these advantages result in optimal training and ultimately improved performance for AI technicians. What also proved to be true for the course for Bayern-Genetik GmbH was that all participants passed the final examination with flying colors.
