Workshop with Ibero-Latinamerican Minitube subsidiaries and partners

After the successful premiere in Brazil in 2016, the second Ibero-Latinamerican workshop of Minitube subsidiaries and partners took place in Querétaro, Mexico, from November 26-29, 2019.

The workshop organizers of Mexitube Alemania welcomed 31 attendees arriving from 16 Latin American countries and from Spain, including many veterinarians as well as technical specialists from Minitube subsidiaries and partner companies. The workshop focused on the current and specific situation of animal breeding in Latin America with special focus on the current needs of the pig industry.

Dr. Hector Tellez, CEO of Mexitube, opened the workshop with a welcome speech and very emotional words in memory of the late colleague Dr. Esli Tapia. The workshop was dedicated to his memory.

Dr. Martin Schulze from the Institute for Livestock Reproduction, Schoenow, Germany, was able to impart interesting insights gained from his more than 10 years of experience consulting European boar stations. Dr. Mauricio da Costa (Minitub do Brasil) gave an excellent presentation on the most common challenges of sample preparation for AndroVision®. Dr. Arturo Juarez, technical customer consultant of PIC Mexico and PIC Andina, presented the work of the Mexican PIC gene transfer centers in a very impressive talk and emphasized the high level of hygiene these centers have implemented.

Further presentations given by several of the workshop participants provided a fruitful basis for discussions concerning new ideas and approaches for successful technology transfer from Minitube to boar stud customers in the Latin American and European industries. Workshops and discussions in smaller groups regarding relevant topics from the daily work of the specialists rounded out two extremely intensive days of concentrated and result-oriented brainstorming.

Part of the well-organized and diversified workshop was a tour of the warehouse and offices of Mexitube Alemania, which included their high standard reference laboratory for semen analysis.

In addition to the professional program, Mexitube offered an exciting introduction to the Mexican culture, including a traditional dance show and football match.

In a democratic vote, Spain was elected as the next workshop venue.
