Sustainable use of antibiotics in boar semen production

In modern animal production, the responsible use of antibiotics is essential to meet societal expectations, combat resistance, and ensure sustainability. Minitube is a leader in promoting the responsible use of antibiotics in assisted reproduction technologies. Our sustainable initiatives focus on product transparency, selective and appropriate use of antibiotics, and innovation.

We prioritize the responsible use of antibiotics in boar semen extenders, guided by:
Transparency: We ensure that customers understand the antibiotic components in our semen extender products. We provide Certificates of Analysis (CofAs) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each product and batch, always specifying the antibiotics used and their exact concentration. Our GMP-certified facility is open for scheduled customer visits.

Selective antibiotic use: We use scientifically proven antibiotic compounds sourced from GMP-approved suppliers complying with European (Ph. Eur.), British (BP), or US (USP) Pharmacopoeia standards. We purposely exclude WHO-classified Highest Priority Critically Important Antimicrobials (HPCIA) to prevent resistance against essential human and veterinary antibiotics, supporting the WHO’s One Health approach.

Appropriate antibiotic use: We offer comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for hygienic boar semen production and precise antibiotic use. Our Accurate Dosage of Antibiotics (ADA) concept optimizes dosing and improves efficacy while reducing the potential for resistance.

Innovative concepts: We develop sustainable alternatives to traditional antibiotics. Since 2021, Minitube has been part of the CoolSperm collaborative project, which aims to transfer an innovative concept for cold preservation of boar semen into practice. Our Androstar® Premium extender supports long-term hypothermic storage and inhibits bacterial growth without antibiotics. Organic Bactericidal Substance (OBS) in semen extenders naturally controls bacterial contamination, reducing or eliminating the need for antibiotics for certain contaminants.

Minitube’s commitment to the sustainable use of antibiotics in assisted reproductive technologies supports global health and food security. We invite our customers to join us in this mission for the highest standards of safety and efficacy.
