50 years of Minitube: The development of CASA systems

The analysis of the quantitative semen parameters volume and concentration as the prerequisite for the production of semen doses with a correct number of viable sperm has been automated in professional semen laboratories by using scales, photometers and other tools. Later, with computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA) systems, the evaluation of semen motility in studs has been shifted from subjective estimation on the microscope, to an objective measurement.

After 10 years of marketing Sperm Vision, Minitube scientists developed AndroVision® in 2012, which was, from the beginning, tailored to the needs of animal breeding and not borrowed from human medicine. In these almost 2 decades, Minitube's CASA software has developed constantly and dramatically. It has taken advantage over the years of the ever improved computer and camera hardware as well as of available programming languages and tools. AndroVision® is still today a never ending story and provides new and more functions to its users every year.
