Canine reproduction and TCI training

On December 7-8, 12 vets from all parts of Europe joined a 2-day training on canine reproduction and TCI at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover, Germany.

As in previous seminars, Prof. Goericke-Pesch gave the lectures and supported them with many case studies. The participants were able to contribute their own experiences and questions about canine reproduction, which was very interesting and helpful for the entire group.

We had invited only veterinarians or lab technicians, who are employed by a veterinarian, due to new restrictive EU regulations concerning artificial insemination in dogs as well as concerning semen shipment, according to which a veterinarian must seal the shipment and issue the papers. The atmosphere among the participants was very good; it was very much appreciated that an opportunity was created here to exchange ideas and to get to know each other.

After having collected semen of three males, further examinations were carried out, up to semen freezing. The endoscopic insemination was carried out with Minitube´s artificial dog model Bertha, which proves once more to allow lifelike training. On TCI day, a breeder allowed the participants to watch Prof. Goericke-Pesch to inseminate his bitch.

The PhD students and assistants of Prof. Goericke-Pesch were instrumental in making the seminar a success, took care of the coffee breaks and guided us through the Christmas market in Hanover on Tuesday evening. Thanks to all of you!
