Mexitube at the X Conference on Swine Production 2023
The X Conference on Swine Production in 2023 marked a significant milestone in the history of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) by commemorating the 50th anniversary of its esteemed Swine Department. It is worth noting that UNAM holds an impressive position as the 93rd ranked university in the prestigious QS World University Rankings for 2024, reinforcing its status as the leading institution in Latin America, Mexico, and one of the top two in the region, as confirmed by data from the June 29, 2023, issue of Gaceta UNAM.
Distinguished veterinary experts, including Alberto Stefano, Jose Miguel Doporto, Concepción Diaz, Ma Elena Trujillo, Jaime Duron, Arturo Cervantes, Gerardo Ramirez, and Rolando Beltran, all alumni of UNAM, graced the event with their presence. In addition to these accomplished professionals, pig farmers and advisors also participated, creating a diverse and dynamic audience.
A highlight of the conference was the captivating presentation by our Mexitube colleague, MVZ Hector Tellez, in collaboration with Dr. Joaquin Becerril. They delved into the past and present of artificial insemination in Mexico, showcasing the remarkable progress made in insemination centers, which now rival those in any country across the globe. MVZ Hector Tellez also shed light on the advancements in catheter technology for semen application, particularly emphasizing the groundbreaking Minitube post-cervical insemination catheters.
Tellez's practical and insightful explanation of the technology employed in these catheters sparked immense interest and excitement among the attendees. Of particular note were the impressive results he shared from a commercial farm housing 3,000 female pigs. In the last six months, this farm has witnessed the birth of over 17 piglets due to the application of these cutting-edge technologies. This success story underscores the remarkable potential of these innovations in swine production.
