Porcine TechDays Latin America: Driving innovation in porcine reproduction

Held on September 30 – October 1, 2025, in Querétaro, Mexico, the TechDays brought together over 60 professionals from 13 countries across Latin America to exchange knowledge and experience on the latest advances in porcine reproduction. The two-day event combined expert lectures with practical workshops, highlighting Minitube’s commitment to technology, training, and collaboration.

The first day featured presentations on the main challenges and innovations in the field:
  • Boar Stud Management in Latin America: A New Vision – Dr. Michael Kleve-Feld (PIC) provided a global overview of best practices in managing AI centers, focusing on standardization, performance indicators, and semen quality assurance.
  • Biosecurity Measures to Protect Genetic Value in AI Centers – Dr. Mónica Garnica (Hypor) highlighted the importance of biosecurity protocols, entry control, and continuous monitoring to safeguard genetic programs.
  • High Prolificacy in Females and Its Consequences – Dr. Fernando Bortolozzo (UFRGS) discussed the physiological and management implications of highly prolific sows and strategies to optimize reproductive efficiency.
  • Practical Experiences from CTG Farms in Western Mexico – MVZ Arturo Juárez & Eng. Jesús González (PIC) shared applied learnings from boar stud operations and data-driven management to improve semen production consistency.
  • Common Errors in Semen Sample Preparation for Analysis – LV Mauricio Barros (Minitube do Brasil) addressed frequent laboratory mistakes and demonstrated proper techniques for CASA system accuracy.

The day concluded with a networking dinner, fostering knowledge exchange among producers, academics, and industry leaders.

On the second day, participants put theory into practice through rotating workshops on:
  • Semen collection training
  • Post-cervical insemination (PCAI) workshop
  • Correct semen sample preparation and evaluation
  • Prism10 software training for semen production
  • AndroVision® eFlow system operation
  • Roundtable on semen transport and storage logistics
  • Optional visit to Minitube Mexico’s analysis laboratory

The program also included a roundtable with experts Joaquin Becerril (MX), Manuel Di Ció (ARG), Roberto Funes (ARG), and Jorge Perea (MX), followed by an optional visit to Minitube Mexico’s laboratory for live demonstrations of semen dose processing and biosecurity procedures.

With international experts from Brazil, Germany, Spain, Colombia, and Mexico, the event reinforced Minitube’s leadership in reproductive technology and professional development across Latin America.

Thank you to all participants for making this year’s Minitube Porcine TechDays Latin America an inspiring hub for innovation and collaboration in the swine industry.
