Minitube at ICBSP 2024: focus on innovation and sustainability

The ICBSP (International Conference on Boar Semen Preservation) once again proved to be an important event in the pig industry, as this year's event in Vic, Barcelona, showed. Around 200 experts, researchers and industry leaders from all over the world attended the event, which was characterized by high quality presentations, the latest research results and interesting discussions.

The conference program can be summarized under the theme “Taking science into practice”, reflecting the event’s focus on translating advanced research into practical applications. Other key topics included “State of the art in ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology)”, “AI (Artificial Intelligence) meets AI (Artificial Insemination)”, and “Environmentally conscious production through increased efficiency”.

A major theme of this year’s conference was “Combating antimicrobial resistance”. Dr. Dagmar Waberski from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany, gave a compelling presentation on “Boar Semen Storage at 5°C for the Reduction of Antibiotic Use in Pig Insemination: Pathways from Science into Practice”. Recognizing the importance of this issue, Minitube leads the way in promoting responsible antibiotic use in assisted reproduction technologies. Our sustainable initiatives focus on product transparency, selection and appropriate use of antibiotics as well as innovation. A key element of our approach is to improve hygiene in semen production, exemplified using our BoarMatic system for hygienic semen collection.

ICBSP attendees had the opportunity to hear our experts discuss these concepts in detail at the spacious Minitube stand. They were also able to see a variety of our product highlights including BoarMatic, QT-Packer, AndroVision® eFlow, AndroScope, and advanced boar semen freezing equipment. Minitube was represented by a strong international team from the United States, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and Germany. Our experts explained in detail to the many interested parties how Minitube products can improve the efficiency and sustainability of boar semen preservation. The Catalonian Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Òscar Ordeig i Molist, also visited us and was very impressed with the advanced technology that Minitube has to offer.

ICBSP 2024 once again highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in the sustainable advancement of boar semen preservation.
